And, as if that weren’t enough, the idea that this element could help to lose weight when consumed as a drink has spread in the popular sphere.

There are several types of recipes based on apple cider vinegar that promise several benefits: “detoxify” or “alkaline” the body, burn fat, cleanse the skin, “speed up” metabolism, balance sugar levels, eliminate fungi and lice, etc. However, none of them are medically adequate. In fact, its consumption involves more risks than anything else.

What is apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar is made from the fermentation of alcoholic sugars from this fruit. It can also be made from apple cider.

Its fermentation process basically consists of two steps:

  1. First, apples are mashed and combined with yeast to turn their sugar into alcohol.
  2. Second, bacteria are added to ferment the alcohol into acetic acid.

But it is definitely not good for losing weight overnight, not in three weeks or six months, not ever. Nor does it serve to regulate glucose levels or “clean the body”. Therefore, it is not useful to drink it on an empty stomach or with a meal.

As we discussed earlier, apple cider vinegar can irritate the stomach lining and seriously damage the entire digestive system. For this reason, its consumption is not convenient, even if there are beliefs that indicate that it works. As long as there is no scientific evidence, it is best to avoid taking risks.
