Socks absorb varying amounts of sweat from the feet, wearing shoes without socks actually increases the amount of sweat in contact with the feet and therefore increases the bacterial activities that cause foot odor.

Hair on the feet is also a contributing factor to bacterial growth. Foot odor, or bromhidrosis, is caused by bacteria that thrive mainly on warm, moist feet. Sweat creates a favorable environment for bacteria to multiply.

The instep has innumerable sweat glands that release sweat, made up of water, sodium, chlorine, fats and acids. Bacterial multiplication and the production of these components cause foot odor.

Sodium bicarbonate

Add some baking soda to a glass of water and soak your feet in the mixture for 10 minutes. Baking soda increases the acidic properties of the foot and decreases foot odor significantly.

Furthermore, it creates a hostile environment that is unsuitable for the proliferation of bacteria, preventing unpleasant odors.

Black tea

First, boil the water with 5 pouches of black tea for 15 minutes.

Then remove from heat and wait until the water is dead, then dip your feet into it. After a few minutes, dry your feet well and apply a talcum powder for the region.

Wash your feet thoroughly, dry them, and then apply a little tea tree essential oil only to the soles of the feet. Do not apply oil directly. Mix approximately 10 ounces of tea tree oil with 10 ml of wheat germ or almond oil.

How to prevent foot odor?

Below are some tips that can help you avoid foot odor:

  • First, always remember to wash your feet well every day, if possible use an antibacterial soap. Rub your feet once or twice a week to get rid of dead skin cells. Don’t forget the region between your fingers;
  • Dry your feet immediately after showering;
  • Change socks regularly;
  • Avoid wearing the same shoes for days at a time;
  • Sprinkle a little talcum powder on your toes to keep them dry and slow down the growth of bacteria.
